Schoolwide Enrichment Model
Developed by:
Sally M. Reis and Joseph S. Renzulli
Theoretical Underpinnings:
-Renzulli's 3-ring model of Giftedness
-notions of creative-productive giftedness
-enrichment triad model (again, Renzulli)
Brief description of the model and/or its philosophy:
10-15% of above-average ability students put into talent pool. Once the pool is assembled, a Total Talent Portfolio is developed for each student. Then, based on their talents and interests (stated in the Portfolio), they are encouraged and enriched by the school
Key elements,components, and/or non-negotiables:
-Revolving door Identification model
-Total Talent Portfolio
-Differentiation
-Renzulli Learning, The Schoolwide Enrichment Model: A Comprehensive Plan for Educational Excellence
-Specially trained people to work with the talent pool
Intended applicationsfor the model (enrichment, pull-out, whole school, classroom, etc.):
-Whole school (good for a magnet school, or school-within-a-school)
Intended Audiences:
-All ages
Relative strength and weaknesses:
Strengths:
-based on the 3-ring model of giftedness, which is widely regarded a good model
-very comprehensive
Weaknesses:
-expensive resources
-lots of professional development needed
Resources required:
-Renzulli Learning (not required, but strongly recommended to run the SEM efficiently)
